Day 01: Manchester/ Chennai- Fly
This evening, fly to Chennai (India).
Overnight on board.

Day 02: Arrive Chennai/ Mahabalipuram (50Kms & 1.5hrs drive)
Arrive Chennai in the morning @ 0810am.

Chennai formerly known as Madras is the capital city of Tamilnadu state and is the fourth largest metro city in India. The city grew up around the English settlement of Fort Saint George and gradually absorbed the surrounding towns and villages. However, despite the strong British influence, Chennai has retained its traditional Tamil Hindu culture and effectively blended it with the foreign influence. The city is widely spread in about 180 Sq. Kms. It is a major trade center, being well linked by road, rail and air to important cities besides being a sea port. Compared to the other major metros of India, it is far less congested and polluted.

You will be well received on your arrival at the Chennai airport and transfer to Mahabalipuram.

On the way, you can have the city tour of Chennai, visiting Fort St. George- The British East India Company started its operations in Chennai and to have a settlement for the English people they built a fort, which is the first British fortress in India in the historical White Town. Santhme Church- is built over the tomb of Apostle St. Thomas. St. Thomas one of the twelve Apostles of Jesus Christ came to India in A.D.52, martyred in A.D.72 and was buried here in Mylapore. St. Thomas who brought Christianity to India is considered to be the Father of Indian Christianity. Government Museum- Government Museum, Chennai is a multi-purpose State Government Museum located in Egmore, which is the heart of the city, spreading to an area of 16.25 acres of land. Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore- is one of the ancient Siva Sthalas in south India. The Siva lingam was consecrated by Brahma and called it Kapaleeswarar. Marina Beach is the most famous beach of Tamil Nadu and is considered to be one of the largest beaches in India and the world over.

Mahabalipuram is a small, quiet seaside resort with a unique 7th century Shore Temple, a lovely beach and some of the most beautiful rock-cut temples in the world. Situated on the shore of the Bay of Bengal, Mahabalipuram was already a famous seaport in the 1st century AD. This town was a workshop for temple building.

Day 03: Mahabalipuram

After breakfast at hotel, proceed for city tour of Mahabalipuram. Visit the seven pagoda-style Shore temples, lashed by the waves of the sea and the seven rathas or temple chariots, a group of monolithic monuments & animal figures carved out of solid rock, the earliest known examples of Dravidian architecture. They were constructed in a single century-long burst of creative enthusiasm, starting in the reign of Narasimhavarman 1 (AD 630-68).

Lunch at hotel and rest of the day at leisure to enjoy the beach etc.

Day 04: Mahabalipuram/ Pondicherry (130Kms & 3hrs drive)
After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Pondicherry.
Pondicherry, recently renamed as Puducherry, is a town tucked away on the Eastern seaboard of India. Among its diverse attractions are coastlines of 32kms, palm-fringed beaches, backwaters, fishing villages, beach resorts, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, the international city of Auroville and the French boulevard town with its French heritage.

Arrive Pondicherry and check in at your hotel.

After lunch at hotel, proceed for city tour of Pondicherry, visiting Sri Aurobindo Ashram: Sri Aurobindo was a greatly respected freedom fighter and philosopher who settled in Puducherry and established this Ashrama in 1920. His philosophy and teachings found many followers here and this Ashrama became one of the centers of Vedic and philosophical studies. Promenade, is one of the most visited parts of the city and major tourist attraction. The 1.5 kilometre long stretch faces the Bay of Bengal and offers a wonderful getaway from the daily chores, to the locals and tourists alike. The statue of Mahatma Gandhi and a War memorial are the important things to watch here. The Sacred Heart of Jesus Church is one of the finest churches of Puducherry. This hundred year old church has immense historical significance. It is known for its Neo- Gothic Architecture, an exquisite entrance and stained glass panels that depict the entire life of Christ. You can also walk through French quarters. Auroville, the city is still being built. Work on it started in 1968 under the guidance of Sri Ma, the companion of Sri Aurobindo, the great spiritual leader and freedom fighter. The city is a unique venture. It strives to be a model city where people from all communities from around the world will forget their differences and live in harmony as part of the same community.

Day 05: Pondicherry/ Kumbakonam (130Kms & 4hrs drive)

After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Kumbakonam, en route visit The Nataraja Temple at Chidambaram. The roof of the sanctum sanctorum is covered with gold plates. The presiding deity of the temple is represented by air, one of the five elements of the universe and is known as Akasa Lingam.

Continue drive and visit The temple of Airavatesvara in Darasuram, is one of the 4 biggest temples erected by the Cola Dynasty with those of Tanjore, Gangaikondacolapuram and Tribhuvanam. The temple is a world heritage list of the UNESCO in 2004.

Arrive Kumbakonam and check in at your hotel.

Day 06: Kumbakonam

After breakfast at hotel, proceed to visit Gangaikondacholapuram to see the Shiva temple. Later, explore Kumbakonam one of the most sacred cities in Tamilnadu.

Day 07: Kumbakonam/ Tanjore/ Kanadukathan (155Kms & 4hrs drive)

After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Kandukathan via Tanjore.

Tanjore lies on the south bank of the Kaveri River. Tanjore was the capital of the Mutharayars and Cholas when they were at the peak of their power. Since then, Tanjore has been one of the chief political, cultural and religious centers of South India. Tanjore is in the famous Brihadeeswara Temple, one of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

You can visit Brihadeeshwara temple in Tanjore.

After Lunch at local restaurant, drive continue towards Karaikudi.

Kandukathan is a Heritage Village declared by the Government of India. The Mansion is spread over a sprawling 80,000 square feet in area. The charm of the resort is that it gives you the true experience of the life in the bygone era.

Arrive Kanadukathan and check in at your hotel.

Day 08: Kanadukathan

After breakfast at hotel, proceed to for city tour of Kanadukathan, including , Pillayarpatty temple and Thirumayam fort, Chettinad cotton and fabric weaving centre, handicraft centre and local market.

Day 09: Kanadukathan/ Madurai (110Kms & 3hrs drive)

After breakfast at hotel, drive towards Madurai.

Arrive Madurai and check in to your hotel.

In the afternoon, proceed for city tour of Madurai, visit Meenakshi temple, which is 1000 pillared Hall carrying some beautiful sculptures of 17th century. Also visit Tirumala Nayak Palace, built in 1636 by King Thirumalai Nayak with the help of an Italian Architect. The building we see is the main Palace where the King lived. The original Palace Complex was four times bigger than the present structure.

Day 10: Madurai/ Periyar (145Kms & 4hrs drive)

After Breakfast at hotel, drive towards Periyar.

Periyar Tiger Reserve and National Park - Established in 1934 as the Nelliampatty Sanctuary, the park was enlarged in 1950 and is India's southernmost tiger reserve. The lake covers some 10 sq. miles and most of the sanctuary is undulating.

Arrive Periyar and check in to your hotel.

In the evening, proceed for boat cruise in Periyar National Park to see wild life.

Boat cruises make the best option to check out the wilds of Periyar Sanctuary. Today the Periyar Lake presents an excellent boating spot for tourists. Although it is unusual to see many animals from the boats, still you spot a family of Elephants, Wild Boar and Sambar Deer by the water's edge. The upper deck is best for wildlife viewing when taking a boat cruise, but better turn up half an hour early to get the best seat to maximize your chances.

Day 11: Periyar/ Munnar (120Kms & 3hrs drive)

After Breakfast at hotel, proceed to visit the spice plantation. The spice plantation in Thekkady is a prime attraction of this beautiful land. Though sprawling tea estates cover much of the landscape of Thekkady, plantations of cardamom, rubber, vanilla and coffee are also aplenty. Walk amidst the green, terraced farms, while you hear the murmuring sound of the rippling stream and breathe in the fragrant air while exploring the spice plantation in Thekkady.

Later, drive towards Munnar and Lunch on the way at local restaurant.

As you go up slowly through the narrow winding roads, you will see all the shades of green that God created. From the lush carpets of the tea bushes to the silver green of the oak it is all there on the mountains of Munnar. The marvellous hill resort of Munnar lays at the confluence of three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala, Since the British rule Munnar has been thronged by tourists. The lovely landscape, the teagardens and the pleasant weather make it a picture perfect destination. The hill resort is situated at an altitude of 1520meters, in the eastern part of Kerala. The Western Ghats of Kerala stand close to Munnar. The highest peak of Anaimudi is quiet close to the hill resort. The hills neighbouring Munnar present a spectacular sight only once in every twelve years. The Neelakurunji plant grows on the hills and bloom to cover the entire mountain range.

Day 12: Munnar

After Breakfast at hotel, proceed for full trip around Munnar, visiting Tea Plantation, The Mattupeety Lake, is one of the major tourist attractions around Munnar. The Lake at a distance of 13kms from Munnar, was created by a small hydroelectricity dam is flanked by steep hills and woods all around. The Top Station is a vintage point around Munnar that offers panoramic views of the lovely landscapes and the valley. Echo Point, This scenic place gets its name from the natural echo phenomenon here. Echo point is on the way to Top Station from Munnar. Kundala is a picturesque town on the way to Top Station. The Golf Course which belongs to Tata Tea Ltd. is located here. The Kundala artificial dam is another attraction. Aruvikkad Waterfall is also near Kundala. Attukal Waterfalls, is located just 9kms from Munnar is breathtakingly beautiful waterfalls and rolling hills, Attukal, located between Munnar and Pallivasal, is a feast for the senses. The place is also ideal for long treks.

Day 13: Munnar

After breakfast at hotel, proceed for Jeep Safari inside Eravikulam National Park to visit the endangered mountain goat of South India- the NilgiriTahr.

Eravikulam National Parkis a 97 km2 national park located along the Western Ghats in the Idukki district of Kerala. It is an ideal place for seeing the biodiversity of high elevation shola-grassland ecosystem. The Park for the endangered mountain goat of South India, the Nilgiri Tahr (Hemitragus hylocrious), the Eravikulam National Park stands out for the stark beauty of its rolling grasslands and sholas in the Kannan devan hills. The Park is administered by the Kerala Department of Forests and Wildlife, Munnar Wildlife Division, together with the nearby Mathikettan Shola National Park, and is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site.

Lunch at a local restaurant and rest of the day at leisure.

In the evening, free to stroll around the market for shopping.

Day 14: Munnar/ Alappuzha (Alleppey)/Houseboat (195Kms &5hrs drive)

After Breakfast at hotel, drive to Alleppey (Alapuzha).

A town with picturesque canals, backwaters, beaches and lagoons, Alleppey was described as the one of the places known as the "Venice of the East" by Lord Curzon. Alappuzha is an important tourist destination in India. The Backwaters of Alappuzha are the most popular tourist attraction in Kerala. A houseboat cruise in these backwaters is a delightful experience.

Arrive Alleppey and climb aboard the traditional RICE BOAT (kettuvallam) converted into houseboats with bedrooms and attached toilets. Originally these boats were used as ferries to carry rice. Cruise through the backwaters of Kerala. This fascinating "backwaters" in traditional houseboats takes you through narrow canals, past paddy fields and villages, allowing you to enjoy the silence of the backwaters and have a glimpse of the lifestyle of the people living along the canals.

All Meals (Lunch, Dinner & Breakfast) will be served on board, prepared by the houseboat crew.

Overnight in HOUSEBOAT or Hotel.

Day 15: House-Boat/ Alleppey/ Cochin (80Kms & 2hrs drive)

Breakfast will be served on board.

Later, disembark at Alleppey, from where you will be transferred to Cochin.

Arrive Cochin and transfer to hotel.

Lunch at hotel.

In the afternoon, proceed to visit the city of Cochin, visiting historic Jewish Synagogue (closed Friday & Saturdays), with its Cantonese tiled floors, fine chandeliers, and the Great Scrolls from the Old Testament. Stroll through the Jewish Quarter, browsing at fine antique shops, and warehouses creaking with bric-a-brac. Also visit the Portuguese built The Mattanchery Palace or Dutch Palace (closed Fridays)- an amazing museum that displays the artifacts of the erstwhile Rajahs of Cochin and visit the enduring 16th century AD attractions for Fort Cochin, the Church of St Francis, within which is the Tomb of Vasco da Gama.

In the Evening take a sunset boat cruise around Cochin harbor and visit Chinese fishing nets of Cochin are fixed land installations for an unusual form of fishing.

Later, proceed to witness the famous Kathakali Dance performance, the riveting 400 year old dance drama of Kerala that narrates sequences from the India religious epic, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. Visually startling, one of the most interesting aspects of Kathakali is its elaborate make-up code and unusual costumes.

Day 16: Cochin/ Kanyakumari - Train

After breakfast at hotel, you will be transferred to Cochin railway station to board Day train- Kanyakumarari Express (0715/ 1515) to Kanyakumari.

Lunch will be served on board.

Arrive Trivandrum and drive towards Kanyakumari- the southernmost tip of India.

Kanyakumari is a small but exceptionally beautiful town, located on the confluence of three oceans - the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, and the Bay of Bengal. Kanyakumari is referred as the southernmost tip of the Indian subcontinent. The name of Kanyakumari is derived from two Hindi words 'Kanya' and 'Kumari' which translates into the 'virgin girl'. It's because that the place is named after the beautiful princess Kanya Devi, one of the many forms of goddess Parvathi, the consort of Lord Shiva. For its association with the goddess, Kanyakumari is regarded as one of the most sacred pilgrimage centers for the Hindus. The town houses several beautiful temples including the one dedicated to Goddess Parvathi.

Day 17: Kanyakumari/ Kovalam (100Kms & 3hrs drive)

After breakfast at hotel, proceed to visit the famous Kumari Amman Temple (also known as Kanyakumari Temple) dedicated to goddess Parvathi, Vivekananda Rock Memorial, the 6th century Fort of Vattakottai or the Circular Fort and Gandhi Mandapam.

Later, drive towards Kovalam.

Kovalam, meaning "a groove of coconut trees," is just 16Kms from the state capital of Kerala- Thiruvananthapuram. Kovalam is actually a combination of three small beaches. Among these, the southernmost beach, named Lighthouse Beach, is the most frequented beach in Kovalam. Earlier this beach of Kovalam was an anglers' paradise. It still has some small villages, just a few kilometres away, which belong to the fishing community. Gradually, this beach of Kovalam has been transformed to a tourist spot of great interest. Kovalam is an ideal place for a sunbath during the winter. Tourists to Kovalam can also experience the typical Kerala massage from the parlours available a few kilometers away along the Kovalam beaches.

Day 19: Kovalam/ Trivandrum/ Fly back home
